On the 5th of December we were very proud to launch the latest addition to the Urban Valley Resort &Spa world: The Notch Conference Centre!

An emblematic building which is the perfect balance of beauty, functionality and versatility.

 

For everybody at Urban Valley Resort & Spa the launch of our conference center was a special and proud moment, allowing us to show off the brand new state-of-the-art, 3-storey, business venue.

There was a festive Christmas atmosphere at the launch, with a superb buffet provided by our catering team, even including mulled wine, a chocolate buffet, music and fireworks!

 

Our partners attended and had stands for the event, so we would like to extend a big thank you to Delicata Winery, Ogygia Gozitan Flavours and Cleland & Souchet for helping to make it such a great event.

The Notch Conference Centre boasts a spectacular façade and entrance which are ideal for helping to showcase your event and add the WOW factor.

All rooms and auditoria have been specifically designed to offer infinite versatility for all types of events, whatever their size or purpose.

 

The Notch Conference Centre is a three-storey building which features the following:

 

  • Ground Floor – a foyer, reception area and a multipurpose conference room, making it an ideal space for exhibitions or catering The conference room size is 96 m2 and can seat up to 98.
  • First Floor – you’ll find a conference room which can seat a total of 210 delegates, making it suitable for large meetings and opening or closing ceremonies with large audiences. The conference room size is 225 m2 and can seat up to 210.
  • Top Floor – this floor offers a world of options and essential flexibility. There are 5 break-out rooms including a fully-fledged boardroom, the perfect complement to your event particularly if you’re running a course that includes breaking out into smaller focus groups.

We’ve made the space transformable and functional by using adjustable soundproof panels, allowing you to create as much space as you require. Breakout rooms vary in size from 27 m2 to 48 m2, but if used as an open space, the whole area is 225 m2.

The technology on offer for your use is first rate; you can complement your event with the latest state of the art audio visual equipment and a dedicated high-speed internet connection.

 

Raised adjustable flooring provide endless set-up options allowing you to be the mastermind behind the configuration of your event.

On-site parking is also available providing a complete hassle-free experience.

Super League Triathlon (SLT) is the premier racing series in the world of triathlon. Founded in 2017, SLT is the pinnacle of the sport on the world’s stage.

They deliver game-changing race formats – mixing up long and short course athletes – in a series of fast-paced events with unpredictable outcomes that culminate in the crowning of the best and most versatile male and female triathletes in the world.

Over the course of the season, the top male and female triathletes from around the world battle it out for the crown to become the best all-round triathlete.

We are honoured to have hosted the SLT press conference at our brand new The Notch Conference Centre, with the Minister for Tourism Dr. Konrad Mizzi and Parliament Secretary of Sports Dr. Clifton Grima.

So why is Malta one of the SLT venues?

 

Well… the historical Mediterranean island of Malta is surrounded by hundreds of miles of water and is home to one of the oldest prehistoric temples in the world. From its “silent city” Mdina to its colourful and picturesque coastal towns, Malta is a no-brainer for this action-packed event.

 

With Valletta being voted 2018’s European Capital of Culture, Malta is one of the world’s most exciting countries to visit, and race in. Get lost amidst the historical streets of Valletta, visit the majestic cathedrals, or just take in the scenery at the Grand Harbour.

You can ‘Taste the Continents’ with our fantastic themed Sunday Lunch menus served at our Silver Heron restaurant. Silver Heron offers a wide range of mouth-watering dishes to entice the senses.

 

The Sunday Buffet lunches at Urban Valley Resort & Spa offer an enriching distinctive variety of antipasti and mezes, soups and pasta, tasty carvery and roasts, hot dishes and accompaniments, all featuring authentic tastes and flavours from around the globe.

Did you know that the word ‘archery’ comes from the Latin arcus. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat. In more modern times however, archery is mainly a competitive sport and recreational activity.

Have you ever tried it? Well now is your chance!

 

‘Archery in Malta’ opened this year inside the grounds of the Urban Valley Resort and offers sessions for both beginners and members alike. The location is vital, being centrally located in Malta, easy to reach and yet sufficiently isolated from the noise and distractions of main streets due to the surrounding nature reserve.

 

Archery in Malta will provide you with expert tuition and guidance, and you can practice your skills and technique on various targets. Why not give it a go!

 

Archery Sessions

 

Sessions can be booked in advance and are typically 1 hour long. Each session includes all of the equipment you’ll need, safety briefings and expert coaching.

 

Archery Malta is open to the public and Urban Valley Resort & Spa guests on Wednesday’s, Thursday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s, with hotel guests being able to enjoy a 1-hour free session on Thursday evenings. The complimentary sessions are available every Thursday at 18.00hrs or 19.00hrs for guests over 16 years of age.

 

We are able to accept archers from the age of 12 and over, and are happy to accommodate groups of up to 12 people for special events, birthdays etc.

You’ll need to book your session at reception as spaces are limited!

Remaining focused during a shot is important for every archer. An archer must focus on their target, focus on their form, and ignore the distractions around them. By constantly being focused, it can help you focus and keep calm in high-pressure situations.

 

  1. Improves your hand-eye coordination

 

Archery trains your hands to aim based on the feedback from your eyes. With continuous practice and repetition your coordination becomes better. The better coordination an archer has, the better the aiming.

 

  1. Improves your upper strength

 

The arms, core, chest, and shoulders are all used when practicing a proper draw. Similar to lifting weights, an archer usually holds their draw for a couple seconds, which allows for tension in the muscles. Repetition of this action leads to muscle development.

 

  1. Improves your social skills

 

Archery can be an individual sport or a team sport. When an archer competes in a tournament they are usually grouped together with other archers for scoring. Archers can get to know each other while they walk the course together. Teams are important in archer too. Working as a team and supporting one another is important for the success of the group.

Archery provides a boost of self-esteem to archers when they see their mental and physical skills improving during practice and tournaments.

The IK Tennis Academy caters for all ages and abilities and has 2 hard outdoor courts plus another 2 hard outdoor courts at St.Martin’s College, Swatar.

About IK Tennis Academy

 

Founded by Ivana Kubickova, IK Tennis Academy is primarily focused on the development of young children from absolute beginners to what we refer to as ‘Pro Juniors’.  Ivana is also the Pro Juniors Head Coach.

The Pro Juniors program is aimed at players under the age of 10. Access to this program is based on ability and commitment. An advanced level of athleticism and coordination, as well as a higher time commitment to the weekly training schedule.

Tennis has always been central to Ivana’s coaching, being the most satisfying aspect. In Ivana’s words, “to help kids explore their full potential in a sport I love so much is a prospect I cherish. This was central to my decision to follow a coaching career, a philosophy and a passion I would like all IK coaches to also embrace.”

Ivana is supported by her fellow training coaches:

  • Robert Tarpey, Technical Director – born in the UK, Rob is a former pro player turned ITF Level 2 coach; he was also the former national coach for Malta Tennis, captaining also Malta during the Fed Cup in 2007. He was the private coach for Kimberley Cassar amongst others.
  • Andrea Giusti, Pro Juniors Coach – Andrea was born in Florence, Italy in 1979. From a very young age, he had a very strong passion for tennis. Having won numerous tournaments in Italy, he decided to pursue a career in coaching. Andrea is highly qualified, and focuses very much on the development of a good technique. He has a very professional attitude, and a very positive approach to coaching.

 

Training Programmes

IK Tennis Academy offers training to suit all ages and abilities through their Mini Tennis, Pro Juniors and Adult training programmes:

 

  • Mini Tennis – this is the first step into tennis. There are 3 levels of mini tennis, Red, Orange and Green, with each level focussing on a different age range and set of skills, with Red being for the younger children and Green being the final level playing on full sized court.
  • Pro Junior – like the mini tennis program, the Pro Juniors program is aimed at players under the age of 16, however access to this program is based on ability and commitment. An advanced level of athleticism and coordination, as well as a higher time commitment to the weekly training schedule.
  • Adult – there are 3 different types of coaching for adults with all 3 being good for beginners as well as for advanced tennis players. Each programme is specifically designed to improve player‘s skills while keeping it still intensive and fun.

 

IK Tennis Academy also organises training camps and tournaments for players regardless of their age or level.
